Support System
Starting to eat right and exercise is difficult for most of us, especially when our current habits aren’t the best. It’s not easy to make big changes in your life, and that is why having a good support system is so important. Family and friends can be great sources of support to you, in fact studies have shown that social support plays an important role in exercise motivation and maintenance.
However, it is also important that you realize that your friends and family may struggle with you losing weight as well. It may be difficult for them to see you changing your life, and some family members may even encourage you to eat foods that aren’t good for you. A good way to handle this is to simply tell your friends and family that you are really trying to change your bad habits and learn to eat right. Then ask them for their support and encouragement. Another good way to help your friends and family come around is to get them involved; ask them if they would like to go out and exercise with you. There are many good ways to exercise as a family.
If your family is not a good support to you, then it is important to find friends that will be there for you. You can talk to people at your local Gym, health center, community center, religious organization, or even just ask your doctor to help you find a good support system. There are also many different resources on-line.
